We stayed at the Soggiorno Angelus for 4 nights during August. The place is ancient and it shows in their rooms, not in a bad way. The décor of our room was pretty dull with not enough lighting. The television is the ancient television on which we could hardly see anything but that did not really matter since they had decent wifi and we could just watch whatever we wanted on our Ipad (the TV was just a few inches larger than the Ipad). The room had no dressing mirror or proper lighting even in the bathroom. The bathroom was mainly lit with natural light from outside and had a small bulb again not enough. Sometimes the feel of the room would be pretty depressing. Besides the décor and lighting issues, it’s a pretty decent place which provides a clean room with basic amenities. Our package was with breakfast and we only had breakfast there once, they only serve limited croissants with different fillings and tea coffee with the usual toast, jam and butter but no eggs. So if the other guests before you grab the croissants, chances are you might be left with no choice or no croissants. The staff at the reception desk were generally helpful except on our first day when we asked the guy if he could book us tickets for the Vatican he said they are not available for the next 4 days, however, when we tried to book it online we found availability on the day we wanted, we just didn’t get a lot of options on the time of the tour. Not sure if he would deliberately not want to book since that does not make sense.

Great location - fab lift!!

This hotel is effectively a small series of rooms within 1 appartment within a block of appartments. Our room was basic but very clean, reception staff were lovely - very polite and keen to help. The breakfast offered a fair selection and was taken in a pretty garden area. The centre of the block of appartments contains a fabulously old fashioned lift which our host was quick to inform us is the 2nd oldest in Rome!! It's really fun to take a ride in. The best plus point was the central location - just a 4 minute walk from the coloseum. Great

The hotel is full of charm and history. The oldest elevator in Rome, and in perfect working order. Simple and functional rooms. A great breakfast room with good coffee. Very helpful and friendly staff. Located walking distance from the main attractions.

Unacceptable staff behaviour

The hotel is at a very convenient location, which is its strongest point. Rooms are old but clean, with tall ceilings, and there's also an interesting antique lift. However, I would not choose to stay there again because of the staff's unacceptable behaviour. We were a group of friends and had booked 4 rooms - two of which were meant to be with single beds. When we arrived, we asked if someone could make the beds separately. The staff insisted we hadn't requested for separate beds for those rooms, so there was nothing they could do about it. The only option they gave us was to pay extra so that someone could come and make the beds! We suggested they could give us some sheets and we would make the beds on our own, but that wasn't a choice either!!!! SERIOUSLY? So if there has been a mistake with the reservation (which apparently has been as it said single OR twin beds and wasn't clear), there is no way to change that? Being rude and unhelpful to customers is just not the way to deal with problems. So, no, I would not recommend this hotel.

Very disappointing facilities and rude management

We arrived at the hotel at about 11am on Friday. We had booked a room with 3 single beds ( 3 male friends visiting Rome to run the Marathon race ). We were given one single and a double. The double bed was actually two single beds put together but could not be split because of the double bed sheets and blanket. The hotel management claimed that we never requested 3 single beds and couldn't change the bed sheet that day without extra charge! The following day would be free they said! Hotel management was very rude. They even made a fuss when we didn't leave the room keys once at the reception - only one set given- ( they claimed security reasons). The room beds and furniture were very basic and low quality, there were several broken tiles in the bathroom and the bed blankets looked 20 years old! An overall disappointing experience! I would definitely not recommend it!
